The home owners wanted a complete kitchen renovation as the original layout of the kitchen was small, cramped and just wasn’t working for the owners.
The First thing that we had to do was to make more space within the kitchen so we decided on blocking up a door way and window (to nowhere) to add extra wall space for a bench and cabinets to go across.
It sounds strange but by removing the doorway we actually created a lot of extra space.
First stage was the demo which was pretty straight forward as the majority of things were only held in place by a handful of screws.
After the demo we straightened all the walls and ceiling ready for plasterboard. Its important in kitchens to have everything plumb, straight and level otherwise it will be really obvious once cabinetry and benchtops are installed if things are out.
We also had to block out a doorway and window so we could attach cabinetry to the walls.
Plasterboard and mudding the joints came next followed by paint. When starting from scratch the paint sprayer really comes into its own when renovating, speeds up the process massively.
After the paint was dry it was onto the cabinetry which all fit perfectly against the newly straightened walls.
The owners wanted a wooden benchtop as a counter and also wanted it to be a sit at breakfast bar so we had to cut the benchtop to wrap around one of the walls after scribing and cutting the back of the benches I used the router to get a beautiful rounded finish on the counter edges.
Next step was to install the cooktop and sink both of the units were drop in style so we had to cut the manufacturers recommended dimensions out of the benchtop and simply drop them in place with a bead of silicone under the sink to keep everything water tight and caulking around the counters where they touched the wall to avoid any water getting behind the cabinets.
Next it was time to install all the cabinet doors which takes a while to get everything looking evenly spaced and closing smoothly.
The home owners also opted for a integrated dishwasher to keep everything looking clean and tidy.
The overall outcome was amazing and looks like it belongs in a magazine. Super proud of this job.
